Parents Right To Know

Title One Parent Involvement Policy

B. D. Lee Elementary School

2012-2013

Parent involvement is an essential element of the school environment at B. D. Lee Elementary. Our school acknowledges that parents are a child’s first teacher and realizes the importance of parent involvement in a child’s educational experience.

B. D. Elementary School will hold an Annual Parenting meeting in the fall.  District and school personnel will review the rights and obligations of parents in the education of your child. During this dinner meeting, parents are encouraged to network and share experiences.  Parents may offer suggestions or comments to any member of the school team.

Parents will be notified of scheduled parent meetings to be held at B. D. Lee Elementary.  The monthly PATHS newsletter, Channel 15 television station, and the ALERT NOW telephone system will list meeting dates and information for parents.  A bi-weekly school newsletter serves to further update parents on school activities.  Information regarding school performance and performance evaluations will be printed in the PATHS newsletter. Other information will be furnished upon request.

Parents will be encouraged to participate in the planning, implementation and review of the school wide plan.  A copy of the plan will be available in the office for review by parents.  Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled during each semester.  Parents are also strongly encouraged to make appointments with teachers in order to discuss student progress. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the school or in their child’s classroom or any other school function such as family literacy and other academic activities. School and district personnel will make home visits when needed to encourage parental involvement.

Individual student performance reports will be explained and given to parents at the first parent conference.  Proficiency levels will be discussed at that time.  If a parent is unable to attend the meeting, other attempts will be made to schedule a meeting.  Individual student reports will be sent home with the child if a parent meeting is not held.   Academic plans will be developed, for students who need extra assistance, based on achievement test scores.

Parents and schools working as partners increase student achievement and help students develop positive attitudes about self and school.
