Blacksburg High School earned a Bronze Medal in the 2013 Best High Schools Evaluation from US News and World Report. “Each year U.S. News and the American Institutes for Research evaluate schools on overall student performance on state mandated assessments, as well as how effectively schools educate minority and economically disadvantaged students. Performance on Advanced Placement exams was then used to determine the degree to which schools prepare students for college level work. Schools were ranked within each state, as well as on a national stage, so families can see how their public high school stacked up against rivals within the community and across the country.

BHS earned national recognition when the BHS Chapter of the National History Club was selected as one of the top ten National Chapters of the Year for the 2012-2013 school year.  This award is given to chapters who go above and beyond expectations with activities and involvement in their communities.  All the activities of each chapter from the past few years are examined to determine the awards.  Club sponsor, Mrs. Sherri Beam said, “I am so proud of our students for working hard to achieve this honor for the second time since we began this club at BHS in 2006.”
