4C Committee The 4C Committee, comprised of faculty and students of Corinth Elementary, is thrilled beyond measure at the array of beautification opportunities on our lovely campus. Over the course of this year, we have met and worked numerous times to beautify our school grounds in a collaborative effort to improve our curb appeal and add to our stellar elementary school, which is a foundation in our community. One spotlight of our playground is the memorial garden. It is maintained in memory of three very influential students: Bobby Wynn-Hitt, Haley Callahan, and Benji Easler. Perhaps you have wondered how you could further assist our efforts. Donations would be greatly appreciated at any time. We encourage you to stop by our office and they will handle all gifts of support. It is through the compassion of others, such as each of you, that we continue to let our light shine throughout the community! |
| PASS Test Students in grades 3, 4, & 5 will be taking the Palmetto Achievement of State Standards test on May 8 th–11 th. Testing will begin immediately following breakfast each day, so it is important that students arrive on time to school. Students may not enter the classroom after the testing session has begun. Please make sure that your child gets adequate rest the night before so that they may do their best on this important test. Also, no cell phones or other electronic devices are allowed in classrooms during testing. This includes such items as iPods and e-readers. Thank you for your cooperation. |
| Dress Code Now that the weather is getting warmer, we ask that students and parents please be mindful of our dress code policy, as outlined on page 14 of our student handbook. All shorts must reach the student’s fingertips when the arms are held down by the sides. Tank top straps must be at least the width of the child’s three fingers. No low-cut or midriff-revealing shirts are allowed. Students violating the dress code will be sent home or required to change into more appropriate clothing. Thank you for your cooperation. |
A Note from the Nurse We have recently had an outbreak of a stomach virus with symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fever. PLEASE, if your child has any of these symptoms, keep your child at home for at least 24 hrs after the symptoms cease. This will allow adequate rest and recovery and PREVENT THE SPREAD TO OTHER CHILDREN AND STAFF HERE AT SCHOOL. It may also prevent your child from catching this virus for a second time. Thanks so much for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions please call me at 206-6605 or 489-2163. Sincerely, Melanie Cutchin, RN |

Principal's Message
Dear Corinth Families,
In just five school days, students in grades 3–5 will have an opportunity to also show what they have learned this year on the Palmetto Achievement of State Standards (PASS) Test. Students throughout the state will take the test. Results of the test will be sent back to the district and school during late summer and early fall.
Information from the test helps the district along with our school make decisions about instruction for next school year. For example, if there is a low score on measurement in math for third grade, teachers will analyze possible reasons for the score. Did the teacher’s instruction match how measurement was tested? Was measurement taught before time for the test? Did all teachers in third grade have low scores in measurement? What do fourth grade teachers need to do so students can master measurement in their class?
Various forms of assessments are used daily in your child’s classroom to determine how your child is doing and to determine how instruction needs to be adjusted. One example of assessment is observing your child. Teachers look at your child’s independent work, how your child approaches the work, and what gives your child some trouble. Teachers also listen to your child. They listen to your child’s questions and your child’s answers to questions. Teachers listen to your child read in a small group or one to one. They can determine if there is a strategy that will improve your child’s understanding of what he reads.
Daily or weekly quizzes are administered to judge progress on areas that have been taught. Benchmark tests tell teachers how the child is doing when compared to other students at the same grade level.
Students in grades 2–5 have completed taking the MAP test in reading, language arts, and math. This assessment will give teachers even more information about what your child has mastered and what remains to be taught before the end of the year. Using all these methods of assessment and many others, the teacher can make instruction the best it can be for your child.
If you have questions about any of these assessments, please contact me or your child’s teacher. We will be glad to discuss the results with you.
