about us

Draytonville Elementary School is a Title I school that serves approximately 307 students in four-year old kindergarten through fifth grade. Eighteen students are served in our resource program, and 23 qualified for speech services. Three students are presently served through the ESOL program. Ten students in Grades 3-5 met the state criteria to qualify for the Gifted and Talented program.

Most of our school population comes from a rural area around the school. Some students are bused a few miles from inside the city limits. Others live near the Union County line, approximately 10-12 miles from the school. Eighty percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches. Seventy-six percent of our students are Caucasian, 19% are African Americans, and 4% are listed as other ethnicities.

Draytonville Elementary School is located in Cherokee County. Children represent a shrinking portion of the county’s population (24.7%). Likewise, families with children now make up a smaller share of all households (34.9%). The majority of parents within our attendance area are employed in manufacturing.
