Parent Involvement Policy

Goucher Elementary School

2009-2010

We believe parent involvement is a vital part of the educational arena. Parents are invited to observe and volunteer in classrooms. Parents are welcomed to attend school activities to support their child. All parents are invited to participate in our Parent Teacher Organization. Parents are encouraged to participate in the planning and review of the Title One Plan. A copy of this plan is available in the principal’s office for review by parents when requested.

Parents will be informed about scheduled parent meetings and activities through school fliers, cable channel 15, marquee sign, and PATHS (a monthly newsletter) which will list up coming events at our school. Also, our monthly newsletter will notify parents of all events. All information shall be given to parents in a language the parents can understand.

At our fall parent-teacher conference, we shall provide assistance to parents to have a better understanding of their child’s academic achievement standards, state and local academic assessments, and how to monitor progress in order to improve the achievement of their child. Goucher Elementary shall provide materials and training to help parents to work with their child to improve their child’s achievement such as: literacy training and using technology as appropriate to foster parental involvement.

Mrs. Shirley Birch, the Title I Parent Coordinator shall provide support for parental involvement activities at the request of a parent.
