We are looking forward to a fun day of signing yearbooks, so get yours before they are gone.
PASS test will be May 8,9,10,and 11. Makeup dates are May 14-18. Students are encouraged to get a good night’s rest, be on time, and leave cell phones at home. Cell phones will be taken up during the test and given back to students when testing is complete each day.
Also, students are encouraged to take their math books home each day to study and practice for upcoming PASS test. The math textbook provides examples and practice problems to help students relate to how to solve and work through the problems.
Parents, it is important for you to encourage your child to practice skills that he/she has had difficulty with.
MEDICATION
At the end of the school year all medications (prescription and over the counter) must be removed from the clinic. This can be accomplished in one of two ways:
1) Parent will pick it up and take it home.
2) Nurse Becky will destroy and dispose of it on the last day of school (Thursday, May 31st).
Even though your child may still take the medication NEXT school year, it cannot remain in the clinic over the summer.
CHANGE OF MEDICATION POLICY
The medication policy will be changing for the 2012-2013 school year. Nurse Becky can no longer accept a labeled bottle as the “prescription”. A writtin prescription from the physician must accompany the medication OR the Cherokee County Authorization for Medication Administration (found on the web site or the school nurse can provide it).
*Remember that the pharmacy keeps the prescription: you will need to ASK them to make a copy.
REQUIRED CHANGE FOR THE 2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR:
SC DHEC is providing important information in advance of a future immunization requirement. This requirement does not apply to the 2012-2013 school year but will begin with the 2013-2014 school year.
*One (1) dose of Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) administered on or after the 7th birthday will be required for all seventh graders. It is strongly recommended that adolescents who have not yet received a dose of Tdap vaccine be immunized in advance of this requirement.

This has been a very successful year at Granard Middle School. Our teachers and staff worked diligently to provide a nurturing and academically challenging environment. We had 17 Junior Scholars this year. Our Battle of the Brains Team was in the semi-finals; a first for Cherokee County! Our school received a technology grant which was used to purchase IPAD computers for our students. Our students participated in Regional Band, as well as having successful seasons in football, volleyball, and basketball. Our School Report Card scores improved and Granard Middle School received the Palmetto Silver Award from the South Carolina Department of Education! Students and staff participated in Writing Across the Curriculum. This was a tremendous success. We continued to stress technology implementation in the classrooms and held school-based training sessions. Additionally, our staff participated in a variety of meaningful professional development opportunities in order to improve classroom performance. Granard became the first middle school in Cherokee County to implement the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS). We continue to be committed to providing a quality educational experience for every student.
