Library News
During their library time for the past several weeks, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students have been learning about how dogs can provide service to people with special needs. We have read books and watched film clips about guide dogs, dogs that help wheelchair bound people, search and rescue dogs, and therapy dogs. As the culminating activity for this lesson, we had a visit from Chelsea Usher, a Gardner-Webb student, and Tucker, her guide dog “in-training.” Ms. Usher is also a published author. While a senior in high school, she wrote the book, Cherokee’s Puppy Tales, about training a guide dog. The students asked Ms. Usher many questions, enjoyed seeing Tucker demonstrate good obedience, and even got to pet Tucker when he wasn’t “working.”
