SCHOOL AND FAMILY COMPACT

Parents

As a parent, I will support my child’s learning this school year by:

*        Setting the expectation of learning in my home and allowing my child to see me learning and exploring new things

*        Requiring regular and punctual school attendance

*        Encouraging and supporting child daily by providing a safe, positive and loving environment that includes proper diet, rest, study area, medical and dental care, and limited television time

*        Attending parent-teacher conferences and other school functions

*        Making homework and reading a top priority making sure homework is completed or attempted daily

*        Volunteering in my child’s classroom or at other school functions including serving on decision making teams

*        Attending parenting sessions, PTO activities and other school functions to promote learning

*        Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education by volunteering for a school committee, School Wide Plan team or SIC or by completing surveys and providing opinions and comments

*        Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time

*        Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district and responding, as appropriate.

*        Participating in available activities as noted in newsletters, notices, the school’s website, and other communications

*        Participating in family literacy activities within the school and community, as needed

*        Communicate with my child’s teacher in a positive constructive manner via conferences, personal notes, telephone calls or assignment book concerning curriculum, grades, homework, test scores, behavior and expectations and discuss all with your child    

Teacher

As a teacher, I will support and encourage student learning by:

*        Encouraging and supporting our school parenting activities including PTO, parenting sessions and promoting family literacy

*        Providing a family friendly atmosphere that welcomes parents and engages families in learning

*        Maintaining open communication with parents by sending home weekly reports, signed papers and/or newsletters

*        Being available for individualized conferences when requested

*        Providing information to parents in a language that can be understood

*        Homework assignments include information/instructions that help families expand on the learning in class

*        Providing quality instruction and to assist parents in improving students’ skills

*        Providing regular assessments of a student’s progress by sending home mid-term reports and report cards along with scheduling parent-teacher conferences and/or by telephone

*        Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and to observe classroom activities or participate in classroom learning, school planning teams and PTO

Students

As a student, I will take an active role and responsibility for my learning by:

*        Attending school every day and obeying all school rules

*        Being prepared for class with material and work, respecting adults, classmates, and property

*        Completing all school assignments and asking for assistance when needed

*        Providing my parents or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices and information received by me from my school every day

*        Encouraging parents to volunteer in the PTO, SIC or other school functions

*        Encouraging parents to participate in family literacy activities
